The Challenge to Globalization:
Education for Tolerance, Democracy and Sustainable Development
Nehru Memorial Museum and
Library
New Delhi, January 20-22 2005
Nehru
Memorial Museum
and Library will be hosting a conference titled “The Challenge to Globalization:
Education for Tolerance, Democracy and Sustainable Development" to be held
in New Delhi on
January 20-22, 2005. The aim is to bring together a number of academics from
diverse fields in the humanities and social sciences, as well as a number of NGOs
and representatives of international institutions to explore the role that
formal and non-formal education can play in the debate on Education for
Sustainable Development. It was been widely acknowledged that, following Rio
(1992), international conferences focusing on Education for Sustainable
Development (ESD) and Education For All (EFA) are falling short of their
promises to eradicate illiteracy and poverty. Following the Thessaloniki
Declaration on Environment and Society (www.mio-ecsde.org/old/Thess/TOCThess.htm) we
consider that sustainability concerns a vast range of issues, such as health,
poverty, tolerance, and democracy, calling for a paradigm shift in formal and
non-formal education.
Please forward to friends and colleagues
who might like to attend.
